Charles "Cholly" Alanson Buckman passed away in the early morning hours of Palm Sunday, March 28, 2021 at home in New Bern with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Manhattan Hospital in New York City, New York on October 12, 1933, the son of Charles Francis and Rose Garrison Buckman.
At the end of high school, he enlisted in the United States Airforce (known then as the U.S. Army Airforce) and proudly served four years during the Korean War. After his service, he began a long successful career in elevators. He started his career as an apprentice with Westinghouse Elevator Company. Throughout the years he installed and worked on many elevators in the New York City area. As his mechanical knowledge of elevators grew his career advanced and he began his own elevator business, Garcon. As he and his businesses grew he became a nationally known consultant for elevators, escalators and vertical machinery. He was called upon by many attorneys and accident victims to handle their cases, which he did with much success. During this period he attended Fairleigh Dickinson and Bloomfield Universities. Patricia and he moved to New Bern, North Carolina in 1996, a place which he totally loved. He became a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. He served a term on the Board of Trustees and also sang in the choir. He has missed attending church for the last year and a half due to the coronavirus and health issues.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia, son, Guy Kevin Buckman and wife, Angie of California; daughters, Alyson Rowena Cinelli and husband, Albert of California and Brenda Rose Buckman of California; step-daughters, Susan Mary Daub-Longo and Ellen Marie Platt, both of New Jersey; grandson, Jason Francis and wife, Mallery and their children: Brooke Debra, Jason William "the Conqueror", and Abigail Eleanore; granddaughter, Deanna Rowena Cozzone, grandson, Charles Brett and his boys: Trefor and Dorian, granddaughter, Zoe Elizabeth Longo of Colorado, grandson, Charles Platt, granddaughter, Brooke Madruga, sister, Holly Gail Greenhalgh of Maryland and her children, Ward, Holly Louise, and Jennifer, and their children, Hannah, Leia, Christina, Gunner, and Colby; and sister in law, Marie Palsir.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Charles Brett Buckman, daughter, Debra Buckman, and his sister, Lynn Raskins.
A Memorial Service will be held at Cotten Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, April 5, 2021 at 11:00 am with Pastors Susan Greenwood and Rick Moser officiating. A Celebration of Charles' life will be held in late Spring when the weather is lovely.
