A loving wife and mother, Bernice cared deeply for her family, friends and church family. She was a member of Macedonia O.F.W.B. Church in Ernul where she enjoyed preparing meals for her family, friends, and anyone in need, which included the soup kitchen and church benevolence committee. One of her great loves was supporting and raising funds for Camp Vandemere. Bernice also loved to travel and see new places, including all 50 states as well as destinations overseas. Through the years, some of her favorite pasttimes were collecting dolls and gardening.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Kenneth Hill; children, Sylvia Jackson Ward (Terry) of Kinston, Andrew "Andy" Jackson (Jennifer) of Dover, and Joseph Jackson (Linda) of Vanceboro; sister, Peggy Huff of Waynesville; grandchildren, Jenny Hawkins, Beverly Brooks, Andrew Jackson, Jr., Lacy Rae Ward, and Douglas V. Jackson; and five great grandchildren, Sydney Hawkins, Brianna Hawkins, Caleb Hawkins, Benjamin Jackson, and Adalyn Jackson.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 13th at Cotten Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 14th at Cotten Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Mike Scott officiating. Burial will follow at the Hill Family Cemetery in Vanceboro.
