Alicia Victoria Williams of Trent Woods, NC died peacefully in hospice care after a long battle with cancer.
Born in 1937 in Crossett, Arkansas, Alicia was the daughter of the late James Varnado Williams and Johnie Crutchfield Williams.
Her early years were spent in Springhill, Louisiana; Georgetown, South Carolina; and Mobile, Alabama. She graduated from Springhill High School, where she was a member of the Louisiana state championship women’s basketball team. She graduated from Auburn University with a degree in mathematics.
Following graduation, she taught high school mathematics and then worked in banking in Atlanta, GA.
In the early 1960’s, Alicia moved to Houston, TX where she worked as the secretary to the district attorney, a loan officer at saving and loan association, and an agent in an insurance brokerage firm.
In retirement, she moved, along with her sister Hope, to New Bern, NC where she enjoyed playing bridge with newfound friends, following college and professional football, and visiting with family in North and South Carolina.
Alicia is survived by her sister Hope Williams and her sister-in-law Elsie Williams of Trent Woods, her brother Burrell Williams and sister-in-law Nancy of Hilton Head Island, SC, nephews Jay Williams of Ridgewood, NJ and Rob Williams of Northampton, MA, and niece Ann Jones of Trent Woods. She was predeceased by her brother James Varnado Williams, Jr. of Trent Woods in June of this year.
A memorial service will be 2:00 pm Saturday December 28, 2024 at the Lakeside Chapel of Greenleaf Memorial Park and will be conducted by Rev. Angel Lorton.
