Sebastiao M. Almeida

Sebastiao M. Almeida, 76, of New Bedford, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Nazare (Sousa) Almeida with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.

Born in Anelhe, Chaves, Portugal, son of the late Jose M. and Adelaide (Calvao) Almeida, he came to the United States in 1967 and settled in New Bedford.

While in Portugal, he served in the military in Angola Africa.

Mr. Almeida had worked as a supervisor at Shawmut Mills for 30 years.

He was a member of Clube Recordacoes, the New Bedford Sports Club and was a fan of Benfica Sports.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Robert S. Almeida and his wife Ann of Lakeville, Alice A. Ferreira and her husband Rob of Rochester and Andrew S. Almeida and his wife Leisse of New Bedford; seven grandchildren, Joshua Almeida and his wife Jen, Amanda Almeida and her companion Chris, Aleisha Almeida, Bryce Almeida, Abigail Ferreira, Jillian Ferreira and Olivia Almeida; his siblings, Jose Manuel Almeida of Portugal, Paul Almeida of Acushnet, Jack Almeida of New Bedford, John Almeida of New Bedford, Maria Carballo of New Bedford, Dusty DaSilva of Milford, Manny Almeida of New Bedford, Doris Capela of New Bedford, Robert C. Almeida of New Bedford and the late Antonio C. Almeida; also numerous nieces and nephews.

His Funeral will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 9 a.m. from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday, November 1, 2019 from 4-7 p.m.
