Ronald A. Nanfelt

Born in Newark, NJ, a son of the late Alfred V. and Alice E. (Moreland) Nanfelt; a longtime New Bedford resident, he graduated from Wheaton Academy in Chicago and was a prominent businessman in the wholesale seafood business for over 40 years. He was a pioneer in the seafood industry, working tirelessly to advance the industry and leave it better than he found it. Ronnie was cofounder of Coastal Fisheries and most recently, a seafood consultant for Kyler Seafood, a family owned business here in New Bedford.

Ron loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He was extremely punctual and was a very driven man who expected much from himself and others. His greatest passion was traveling and delighted in boating in South Florida, the Bahamas, and the New England waters of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. In addition, exploring the country in his motor home was a favorite pastime. He loved spending time with his favorite pet, Tully, and relaxing in his hot tub every now and then. Ronnie was an avid horseman; he enjoyed training his American Quarter Horses, winning many championships throughout the country. He enjoyed traveling and showing at the American Quarter Horse Congress, where he won many awards and championships. Along with traveling, Ron was an avid New England sports fan, who was responsible for the startup of the Lakeville Pop Warner Football program and was a loyal supporter of the Lakeville Little program for many years.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his son, Jeff Nanfelt and his wife Diane of Lakeville; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Tyler, Jarrod, Taryn, Zack, Troy and Tatum Nanfelt; 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Jay Nanfelt and brother of the late Kenneth “Ken” Nanfelt and Jane Scripps.
