Robert L. Pelletier, 98, of New Bedford died of natural causes on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Hathaway Manor Nursing Facility, where he had lived since 2006. He was the husband of the late Rose Alma Beauregard Pelletier. Born in Attleboro, MA, he was the son of the late Raoul J. Pelletier and Dora (Jourdanais) and the step-son of Rose (Couet) Pelletier. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church.
Until his retirement in 1980, Mr. Pelletier had been a co-proprietor of R.J. Pelletier, Inc., a family business since 1924, with his twin brother, the late Raoul “Ralph” A. Pelletier. He was also the proprietor of Pelletier Travel Service of New Bedford and Wareham, MA.
Mr. Pelletier enjoyed spending his winters in Hollywood, Florida with his wife, Rose Alma, of 69 years. He also enjoyed traveling and was involved in several travel-related organizations. He was a past Grand Knight of the McMahon Assembly, No. 151, Knights of Columbus, and a founding member of Le Club Richelieu de New Bedford. He was also involved in La Ligue Civic, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Alhambra Leon Caravan 122, Boy Scout Troup 24 Cachalot District, Independent Garage Owners, the Automotive Maintenance Association, the New Bedford Industrial Development Commission, and the New Bedford Airport Commission.
He is survived by a daughter, Suzanne J. Pelletier of Dartmouth, MA, and a son, Michael R. Pelletier, of Los Angeles, CA. He was also the father of the late Robert L. Pelletier, Jr. of Hollywood, FL, and Pauline Pelletier Cormier of Melbourne, FL. Additional survivors include his three grandchildren, Garrett R. Cormier of Hickory NC, Viola Christine Cormier of Portland, OR, and Angela Pauline Cormier, of Palm Bay, FL., and three great-grandchildren, Jayden and Kamryn Cormier of Palm Bay, FL, and Hailey B. Cormier of Acushnet, MA. In addition to his wife, his twin brother, “Ralph,” and two of his children, he was predeceased by his brother Frederick Pelletier and a sister Jean Sevier.
