Raymond Caton, Sr., age 84, of Acushnet, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Shirley P. (Martel) Caton to whom he had been married for 59 years.
Mr. Caton was born in Fairhaven, the son the late Manuel and Mary (Perry) Caton. He was employed as a Heavy Equipment Operator with Local #4 for many years before retiring. Mr. Caton was a United States Army Veteran during the Korean War. He enjoyed motorcycle riding with his sons, Friday afternoons at Honey Dew in Fairhaven and was an avid baseball fan.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his three children Raymond Caton, Jr. and his companion Terry Alphonse of Acushnet, Mark Caton and his wife Laureen of New Bedford and Tammy Vasconcelos and her husband Robert of Dartmouth; six grandchildren Raymond III, Christopher, Anthony and Ryan Caton, Hannah and Heather Vasconcelos; four great-grandchildren Devon, Makenzie, Ethan and Anaya Caton; a step father in-law John Baptist of Fairhaven and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Virginia Gagne, Hilda Kresge, Alice Neagus and Ruth Messier.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at 9 AM from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by his funeral mass at 10 AM in St. Francis Xavier Parish, 125 Main St., Acushnet. Visiting hours will be Monday, 5 – 8 PM. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, New Bedford.
