Millicent Reynolds was born in 1930 in New Bedford, the oldest daughter of Edward and Betty Corrie. She was predeceased by her husband Lester, her brother Eddie and sister Janet, and is survived by her sister Marilyn.
Music was an important part of her life. Early on, her older cousins taught her to sing and dance. In her teens, she learned to play the piano. She and her sister Janet joined a New Bedford Drum and Bugle Corps in which they played the tenor drum prior to Millie becoming the Drum Major.
She had fond memories of growing up in New Bedford, including ice skating at Buttonwood Park. Her step grandfather was one of the park’s zookeepers.
She graduated from New Bedford High School. She met her husband, Lester A. Reynolds to whom she was married for 67 years. She raised four children – Sharon, Lester, Wendy and Amy. She was a loving mother with a kind heart.
She was one of the founders and a teacher at the Smith Mills Pre-school in Dartmouth and a longtime member of the Smith Mills Congregational Church.
She and Lester lived in Dartmouth since the 1960’s and they spent 11 enjoyable years wintering in Zephyr Hills, FL. They traveled to Ireland and Portugal.
In her 70’s she wrote a children’s book, illustrated by her daughter Amy. “Emily the Elephant” was based on the elephant at the Buttonwood Park Zoo.
Family genealogy was also an interest. She participated in the Reynolds Family Association and communicated with researchers in the US and Europe.
Family was important to her. She regularly gathered extended family members together. She had five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She will be missed by all her family.
