Maria Mello

Born in Flores, Azores, Portugal, the daughter of the late Joseph and Maria (Mendonca) Pereira, she lived in Acushnet for over 40 years.

Mrs. Mello was a talented self- employed seamstress who ran her own business and worked in the local garment industry.

She enjoyed cooking and loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her sons, Gilbert Mello and his wife Lynne of Fairhaven, Stephen J. Mello and his girlfriend Paula Shimkus of Acushnet and Christopher S. Mello of Acushnet; a brother, Joe Pereira and his wife Bertha of Acushnet; three grandchildren, Joshua Mello and his wife Mary, Stephen V. Mello and Trisha M. Mello; one great-granddaughter, Emma Jean Mello; and nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral will be held on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 9 a.m. from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Xavier Parish, 125 Main St., Acushnet. Visiting hours Thursday 4-7 p.m. Burial is private.
