Lillian Louise Oliveira Soucy

Lillian L. (Souza) Oliveira Soucy, 86, of New Bedford passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2016 in her home surrounded by her beloved family. She was the wife of the late George A. Soucy and the late Gilbert M. Oliveira.

Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Eugene and Evangelina (Furtado) Souza, she was a lifelong area resident. Lillian was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, New Bedford.

Mrs. Soucy graduated from New Bedford High School and later worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Hallmark Nursing Home and also did Private Duty for many years prior to retiring at the age 83. Lillian belonged to the Goodyear Seniors and she enjoyed tending to her garden and flowers. She enjoyed going out to eat with her family and caring for her animals. Her family will always remember her generous heart and fondness for giving, and her great sense of humor.

She is survived by her children, Linda Hebert and her husband Thomas of New Bedford, Patricia Oliveira of Hanover, MD, Judy Enright and her husband Robert of Rio Rancho, NM, Susan Teixeira and her husband Joe of Acushnet, Gilbert E. Oliveira of New Bedford, James Oliveira and his wife Donna of Freetown, and Tina Stott of Gulf Breeze, FL; a step-son, Robert Soucy and his wife Margaret of Laconia, NH; a daughter-in-law, Tracy B. Oliveira of New Bedford; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren, and 6 step great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Matthew Oliveira.
