Leo E. Cormier, Jr., 62, of W. Wareham passed away unexpectedly Sunday, February 26, 2023 after a brief illness. He was married for 40 years to the love of his life the late Pamela (Wood) Cormier and the pair were rarely ever seen apart.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Leo and Hilda (Stephens) Cormier he was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Cormier graduated from Old Colony High School. He worked in construction his entire career and recently as a medical transport driver.
His favorite pastime was spending time with his two grandchildren, Connor and Chelsey Turner. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, clam boils, being with his friends, family, and his grandchildren. He was a coach for his children’s sports teams when they were younger and he was active in the town of Acushnet helping as a campaign activist. Leo had a heart of gold and he was a compassionate humanitarian who was always willing to help anyone in need. He will also be remembered for his beautiful singing voice especially during karaoke at the annual family clam boils. Leo always stood out in a crowd with his tall, large build. Whenever he walked in a room, he quickly became the center of attention with his charismatic personality.
He is survived by his daughter, Courtney Turner and her husband Eric of Acushnet; two grandchildren, Connor and Chelsey; his siblings, Laura Rose, Janice Selley, Elizabeth Cormier, Patricia Szyndtar, David Cormier, Michelle Cordeiro, and Christine Conway. He was the father of the late Jonathan Cormier and brother of the late Judith Almeida.
His funeral will be Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 9 a.m. from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Xavier Parish, Main St., Acushnet.
