John Leo Avery, III

John L. Avery, III, age 52, of Acushnet, died at the hands of a drunk driver on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Wednesday in Acushnet on his way home from work.

He was born in New Bedford, the son of John L. Avery Jr. of Maine and the late Alice (Plaud) Avery. John was a self-employed Truck Driver for over 20 years and was currently working at Friendly’s in N. Dartmouth. John enjoyed spending time with his grandson Carter and was proud of his guitar collection.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his two daughters, Jessica M. Gallant and her husband Kyle of Fall River and Justine Avery of Fall River; a grandson Carter Preston Gallant; his wife Cecilia Avery of Acushnet; six brother and sisters, Sue Ouimet of Acushnet, Allison Magelhaes of Acushnet, Laurie Settele of S. Carolina, Greg Avery of Tucson, AZ, Doug Avery of New Bedford and Crystal Dumas of Ipswich, MA and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation hours Tuesday, December 20, 2016 from 5 to 8 PM at the ROCK FUNERAL HOME 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial will be private.
