Joao Do Rego

Joao Do Rego, born on September 27, 1932 in Capelas, Sao Miguel. He was the son of the late Jose (Raposo) Do Rego and Maria da Conceicao Raposo. The brother of the late Gloria Viveiros and Jose Raposo and the father of the late Maria da Conceicao do Rego.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Fernanda Do Rego, seven children, Connie Frias, John Camara, Maria Carvalho, Mario Camara, Joseph Rego, Daniel Rego and Jeff Do Rego, all of New Bedford. A brother of Manuel Camara of New Bedford and a sister Belmira Santos of Connecticut. Four daughter-in-laws and a son-in-law, ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Mr. Do Rego worked as a Whaler and a Merchant Marine while living in Sao Miguel. He later worked at the J.F. White Co. in Newton, MA, for 22 years before retiring.

He enjoyed fishing, reading and spending time with his family. He was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church.

His funeral will be held Friday, March 2, 2012 at 10:30 AM from the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, followed by his funeral mass at 11:30 AM in Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford. Visiting hours Thursday 5-8 PM. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.
