Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Maurice and Claire (Pelletier) Marcotte she was a lifelong area resident and a communicant of St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish in New Bedford.
Jacqueline (Jackie, Jacque) better known as “Mem” to all her loved ones, passed peacefully surrounded by her family in her daughter’s home. Jackie was one of a kind, beautiful and strong soul we’re all blessed to know and love. She was a rock and foundation to her family and is loved beyond a measure or words. Her spirit and way of life was one that we all aspire to have, to live in the present, not to dwell on the past or worry about the future - she enjoyed every moment in the present.
You could find Jackie swinging on her glider with her sister Jan laughing about old times or just about anything or on her chair at the cottage looking at the water with her head bouncing the music coming from her 80’s walkman radio or having breakfast with the breakfast club. She loved the clouds - so think of her when you look at the clouds. She loved the sunsets and sunrises. When there was a gorgeous sunset we would call her and tell her to get to the window and look at the colors. I found out recently her mother did the same to her when she was a young child and lived at home.
She may no longer be with us here, but she will be missed dearly and always remembered not only in our hearts but in every beautiful sunrise and sunset she paints in the skies. She will always be remembered for her resilience, laughter and the love she shared with all of her loved ones. Her family will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
She is survived by four children, Wayne Ferreira and his wife Eleanor of Mattapoisett, Marc Ferreira and his wife Nancy of Acushnet, Kevin Ferreira and his wife Donna of New Bedford, and Sandra Duphily and her partner David Gibney of Acushnet; ten grandchildren, Tess Brightman, Kelly Cushing and her husband Randy, Adam Brightman, Elissa Roberge, Kendra Ferreira, Nathan Ferreira, Kaycee Ferreira, Kara Ferreira, Michael Duphily and his wife Sarah, and Elise Duphily; six great grandchildren, Aliyas Brightman, Avery Brightman, Evelyn Cushing, Nola Roberge, Emelia Zelaya and Aurora Duphily; a sister, Janet Vieira and her husband Ronald of Lakeville; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Maurice Marcotte and Ronald Marcotte.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date in St. Gabriel the Archangel Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory should be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, PO Box 1999, Memphis, TN 38101 or www.stjude.org. For online tribute: www.rock-funeralhome.com.
