George W. Bragga, 75, of Acushnet, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital following a long illness. He was the husband of Jacqueline M. (Hebert) Bragga with whom he shared 42 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late John and Mary (Machado) Bragga, he had resided in New Bedford before moving to Acushnet in 1985.
He was a graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1966, received an Associate’s degree from Bristol Community College and a Bachelor’s degree from U-Mass Dartmouth.
George proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He had worked as an Office Manager for the Town of Fairhaven Board of Public Works for 25 years, retiring in 2001.
George was an avid reader, loved listening to the Beatles and was a Star Trek fan. He enjoyed watching all Boston sports teams. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, especially their yearly trip to Aruba. George loved spending time with his nieces and nephews whom they considered their #1 Uncle.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a sister-in-law, Janine Holmes and her husband Donald; a brother-in-law, Gerry Hebert and his significant other Beth Sweet; his nieces and nephews, Kyle Hebert, Kara Salvador, Kori Hebert, Paul Saucier and Greg Saucier; and his great nieces and great nephews, Audrey, Cole, Lucas, Ethan, Emma, Bryanna and Bayley.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2024 from 2-5 p.m. in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Funeral on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 8 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Graveside Service at 10 a.m. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
