Born in Amherst, Nova Scotia Canada, Mr. Cormier lived most of his life in New Bedford. He was the son of the late Henry Cormier and Mary (Chase) Cormier.
Francis worked as a merchant marine and as a shipper at the Aerovox Company for 32 years until his retirement. He was a World War II Combat Veteran serving in the Coast Guard. He was a communicant of St Joseph-St Therese Church, a member of the retired American Merchant Marine Association, enjoyed yarn painting, traveling and most of all spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving are his children, Michael H. Cormier and his wife Theresa of Mattapoisett, his daughter Joanne Hopkins and her husband Michael of New Bedford, 5 grandchildren; Laura Beth Cormier and her late fiancé Christopher D. Martin, Hannah Cormier, Michael J. Cormier, Craig Olsen and his wife Vicky, Michael Hopkins, two great grandchildren; Jaiden Martin, Zoe Olsen and several nieces and nephews.
His Funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 8:15AM at Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:15AM at St Joseph-St Therese Church, 51 Duncan Street, New Bedford, MA. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 3-5PM. Burial at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
