Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late John and Karolina Kuczewski, she had resided in New Bedford for most of her life before moving to Ladylake, Florida.
Mrs. Fortin was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School and the Katherine Gibbs School.
She was the bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Fortin Electric Co.
Frances was a member of the Friends of Poland and the former French Cotillion where she held office for many years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and the company of her loving family, especially her grandchildren.
Her family includes three daughters, Trisha Hastings-Sargent and husband John of Tucson, AZ, Susan E. Fortin of Tucson, AZ and Nanci MacKenzie and husband William of Tewksbury; seven grandchildren, Asa Hastings of Plymouth, Seth Hastings of Wellington, FL, Holly Hastings of Plymouth, Kevin Norton of New Bedford, Joshua Norton of Tubac, AZ, Daniel Norton of New Bedford and Ross MacKenzie of Hanson; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Victoria Takki and Joann Lada.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, June 5, 2017 from 9-10:30am followed by a Funeral Mass at 11am in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1359 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Resident's Council Fund, 18 Frances St., Woburn, MA 01801, Attention: Kimberly Gullage, Activity Director.
