Francelina Castelo Abreu, age 62, of New Bedford, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2019 in St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the loving wife of Manuel Abreu to whom she had been married for 35 years.
She was born in Rosário de Lagoa São Miguel, Azores, the daughter of the late Jose Da Costa Castelo and the late Maria De Lurdes Castelo. Francelina immigrated to the United States at the age of 11 and was a graduate of New Bedford High School. She was employed as an Account Clerk in the Purchasing Department for the City of New Bedford for several years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters Kelly Abreu and Krystin Abreu both of New Bedford; a step daughter Helen Birkett of Florida; four brothers Anselmo Castelo of Venezuela, Antero Castelo of Acushnet, David Castelo of Brazil and Jose Castelo of Acushnet; three sisters Maria DeLourdes Pires of New Bedford, Ana Lopes of New Bedford and Valentina Farias of Acushnet; eight grandchildren of whom she adored and many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held on Monday, December 23, 2019 at 9AM from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 5 to 8PM. Flowers are welcome or in lieu of Flowers, a memorial contribution in her honor may be made to the American Liver Foundation.
