Bernice M. Quirk

Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Manuel and Mary Elizabeth (Moniz) Garcia, she was a lifelong resident of Fairhaven and a graduate of Fairhaven High School.

Bernice was a volunteer at the Hawthorne Cancer Center for 13 years, and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by a son, Richard J. Quirk of Arizona; a daughter, Susan Dupont and her husband Jeffrey of Fairhaven; a sister, Phyllis Ducary of Fairhaven; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Ronald J. Quirk and George R. Quirk, Jr. and sister of the late Leonard Garcia and Patricia Richards.

Her Funeral will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 9:00AM from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at St. Joseph’s Church, 74 Spring St., Fairhaven. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4:00PM to 7:00PM. In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations, made payable to Susan Dupont. Burial in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Mattapoisett.
