Barbara I. Weyer, 94, of New Bedford, peacefully passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023 at Sacred Heart Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in North Dartmouth on August 17, 1929, she was the adopted daughter of the late Hugh John and Julia (Armel) Weyer of Lakeville,MA. She later moved to NewBedford and was a member of St. Joseph’s Church. She attended Lakeville Schools and New Bedford Vocational School.
Barbara worked for Sikorsky Aircraft in Connecticut as a Test Mechanic and also waitressed at many of the local restaurants over the years. She was strong, hard working and fiercely independent. She had a soft spot for children and was like a grandmother to all. She always welcomed everyone with open arms. Her motto was “there’s always room for one more at the table.” Her passion was baking and cooking; she made a cheesecake to die for! Her favorite pastimes were bird watching, gardening, crafting, reading Western Romance Novels, listening to country music, crossword puzzles and enjoying a cup of coffee. Her favorite sports team was the Boston Red Sox. After experiencing a devastating fire, she developed a love and respect for firefighters; often delivering her famous chocolate chip cookies to the local fire stations. More than anything, she cherished the time spent with family. Barbara touched many hearts, and she will be deeply missed.
She is survived by a daughter, son and daughter in-law. Carol (Sa) Wengenroth of FallRiver,MA, Stephen and Laura Sa of Davy, FL,; her grandchildren, Tina Sa-Weedall of Rochester,MA, Jessica Russo of Fairhaven,MA, Rachelle Wengenroth of Acushnet,MA, Timothy Wengenroth of Tiverton,RI, Stephanie Sa of Davy, FL and John Sa of Davy,FL; her twelve great-grandchildren, Katelyn Baker and her spouse Jason Baker, Bradley Weedall, Sadie Weedall, Gracey Weedall, Chad Faria and his spouse Kayla. Christopher Faria and his spouse Yani, Vivianna Viegas, William(Billy) Viegas, Derrick Soares, Jacob Russo, Wyatt Smith, Karsyon Carvalho and her five great-great grandchildren, Jaxon Baker, Caden Baker, Alex Faria, Ysabelle Faria and Isabella Soares.

We will miss your sense of humor, your songs and most of all your hugs. We know you are at peace now.
