I knew Bill and I knew Lucy before they were Bill AND Lucy. The manufacturing facility in Hong Kong reported to me when Bill was sent to Hong Kong as Engineering Manager for the facility that made memory/recording components for NCR and Burroughs computers. Your skills are doubly challenged when you set up a new manufacturing operation when it is in a foreign country. Bill was certainly up to the challenge and was greatly admired and respected by all those he worked with. Bill and I had fun times exploring the amazing place that is Hong Kong – including waiting out some typhoons.  Bill received a living allowance in addition to his salary so he could afford the higher cost of living “American” style in Hong Kong. But Bill lived Chinese style on his allowance and used his salary to start purchasing rare coins. Bill, as all his friends knew, took every interest to an extreme.  He was drawn throughout his life to cars and when passing through Hawaii one time he couldn't resist entering his Hertz rental car in a drag race. Lucy was the secretary/administrative assistant at the plant and was a delight to work with whenever I visited. Her skills were amazing and she contributed so much to the operation.  What a joy and unexpected surprise it was for me when they became a couple! Lucy's love for Bill and her support of him and all his interests is an inspiration.  Bill truly found the ideal partner for his unusual lifestyle. People often use the word “unique” too often – but no one would doubt that it applies to this very special couple. My life is better for having known them.

I am sorry for the loss of Bill.   He was a good engineer and an excellent colleague.  His sense of humor always lightened the day.  He had a lot of wisdom that made a difference for many.  We all miss him.   Best regards to all of you.

Bill was a great boss to work for the 23 years we worked together until his retirement, I always liked talking to him about different subjects and things it was a joy always interesting and entertaining. Dear Lucy, Joe and Family,

I have known Bill since about 1981 when he was at Coilcraft and I was working for Kyocera.  We developed a good friendship, both personally and professionally and I learned a lot from Bill about many things.  He was a great teacher and a very interesting man.  I own my '63 Chrysler 300 because Bill had one and I really liked it and he was a big Chrysler fan.  I am very sorry for your loss.  Bill is in a better place now.  God Bless your family.

Lucy, please accept my deepest condolences to you and your family. Bill had been an inspiration to me when I first joined Coilcraft in 1988. He was a man with great humour, highly knowledgeable and a wonderful person to work with. He will be dearly missed and always remembered by all of us.

Lucy, I was saddened to hear of Bill's passing away. Bill was one of the first few people I know in Coilcraft, Cary, during my training there.

Lucy, I was very saddened to hear of Bill's passing. It seems it is hardest on the living. I am sure Bill is resting at piece. I have so many fond memories of you and Bill. Bill was my mentor here at work, as I learned so much from him over the years. He always took the time for a thorough explanation of a problem. I could tell he enjoyed those "teaching" conversations. I will never forget the fun the three of us had the day I came down to Polo, to photograph all the art work Bill wanted cataloged! Lucy, I am so sorry for your loss. Bill was a wonderful man full of knowledge and amazing stories. I will always remember how he helped me start my "bat house" and acquire my bat guano :) My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
