Thomas E. Perry, of Greenville, known to many of us simply as Tom. Tom passed away at the age of 72, after a courageous battle with dementia. He was born on July 26, 1951, and throughout his life, he touched the hearts of many with his kindness and gentle spirit.
Tom was a calm presence, someone who was always there to listen and keep the peace. He had a unique ability to connect with both children and animals, showing a deep love and compassion for those who needed it most. His work ethic was unmatched, and he approached every task with a sense of humor that could brighten anyone’s day. Tom was also known for his frugality, often finding treasures where others saw trash. His love for fishing provided him with moments of tranquility and joy, reflecting his appreciation for the simple pleasures in life.
One of the many memorable stories about Tom is how he would often bring in stray pets from the neighborhood. One day, a dog named Scooter, an autistic fox terrier, found its way into Tom’s yard and ran into the sliding glass door. Hearing the thud, Tom immediately let Scooter in. For twelve years, Scooter was a part of Tom’s life, often trying to escape to chase birds, cars, and grandchildren. This story is a testament to Tom’s big heart and his willingness to open his home to those in need.
Tom’s legacy is one of love, patience, and unwavering kindness. He taught us the importance of being there for others, of finding joy in the small things, and of never turning away a friend in need. He will be remembered as a loving husband, a dedicated worker, and a man who brought light into the lives of all who knew him.
We will miss Tom dearly, but we find comfort in knowing that his spirit lives on in the memories we share and the values he instilled in us. Rest in peace, Tom. You will always be in our hearts.
