STANLEY S. BRANDT, PhD., 91 years of age, died Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany. Dr. Brandt was born June 11, 1921 in Ackley, Iowa to the late Christian and Viola Stacey Brandt and married Caroline, his wife of 70 years, on August 4, 1943. He received his Masters and P.H.D. from the University of Iowa and was a chemical engineer with E. I. DuPont Co. and Sandoz Agro Co. until his retirement in 1990. Stanley was a quiet man with great wit and a sense of humor. He loved planes, flying, jazz and most of all his wife and family. He was an accomplished Dixieland jazz authority and musician and enjoyed traveling to jazz festivals throughout the country. Since 1995, he served as President of the New Albany-Floyd County Indiana Building Authority and currently was a Consultant for them. He belonged to Alpha Chi Sigma, was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Southeast Christian Church. Stan will be greatly missed by his family, the community and all who knew him. Along with his parents, Stanley was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley A. VanEschen; and his brother-in-law, John E. VanEschen.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Caroline B. Kampmann Brandt; children, Charlynn T. Brandt, Pamela G. Brandt and Paul S. Brandt and wife, Chantell; grandchildren, Britney and Aslyn Brandt; and brother, Stanton Brandt and wife, Marge.
Reception of family and friends will be from 2:00 pm ~ 8:00 pm Wednesday and after 10:00 am Thursday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana. His Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, May 2nd in the Kraft Charlestown Road Chapel with burial to follow in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, Indiana.
