Robert David Overton, Sr., of Sellersburg, Indiana, passed away February 28, 2015, surrounded by family at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born November 20, 1929 in Terre Haute, Indiana and moved to the Sellersburg area in 1955. He was a retired Metro Market Manager with Glidden ICI Paints. He continued to work after retirement for Sherwin Williams Co., Home Quarters, Eagle Color Design, and Duncan Wallpaper and Paint Company. He and his partner and wife, Vivian Overton, also owned and operated Overton’s Upholstering for 28 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the U.S. Army Military Police. He was a member of the Independent Order of Foresters and served as Chief Ranger from 1974-1975. His family and friends will remember him for his many admirable traits and his sharp sense of humor. He was a fan of the sweeter things in life: warm spring days, family time, telling jokes, and eating desserts.
He is preceded in death by his father, David L. Overton; his mother, Violet L. Overton; and his son, Larry R. Dones.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian L. Overton; his eight children, Sharolyn J. Herring, Suzanne J. Overton, Jerry L. Dones (Cathy), Cynthia L. Williams (Danny), Robert D. Overton Jr., Terry G. Overton (Vickie), Steven W. Overton (Tina), and Vickie L. Conner (Adam); his 22 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday and after 9:00 am Wednesday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana. His Funeral Service with Military Honors will be 11:00 am Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with private burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, Indiana.
