Melvin C. Engle, 90, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Floyd Memorial Hospital. He was born January 21, 1925 in Starlight, IN to the late William M. and Frances T. (Gesenhues) Engle. He is also preceded in death by his infant son, Roy William Engle; son, Douglas C. Engle; brother, Wilfred Engle; and sisters, Irma Foskuhl, Iola Rudy, Lillian Book Meyer, Martha Schroder, and Annalee Freiberger.. He was a US Army Veteran and served during WWII earning a bronze star. He retired from Alcan Aluminum Co. after 32 years of employment. He was a member of the American Legion Post 42 of Floyds Knobs, VFW Post 1693 of New Albany, Voiture 40&8 1250 of New Albany and a charter member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Albany.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lillie (Weidman) Engle; son, Dwayne Engle and his wife, Penny; daughters, Marsha O’Connor and Barbara Peters; brother, Robert C. Engle; three granddaughters, Kristen East, Devin O’Connor, and Olivia Peters; great grandsons, Dakota and Dawson East; great granddaughter, Kaylynn East; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday and after 9:00 am Thursday at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring St., New Albany, Indiana. His Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 11:00 am Thursday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 1752 Scheller Ln., New Albany, Indiana with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
