Max C. Mason, Sr., 98, died Friday, June 29, 2012 at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany. The son of J. Chester and Amy (Chapman) Mason, Max was born November 2, 1913 in Wheeler, Illinois. Max was Chairman of the Board and founder of Southern Indiana Abstract Company in New Albany. He was a former member of the George Rogers Clark Boy Scouts Council Advisory Board and a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, New Albany Lions Club, Kiwanis Club, past president of the New Albany City Council and awarded as an Indiana “Sagamore of the Wabash”. Max also served as past vice president of the New Albany Twp. Board of Trustees and the New Albany Building Authority. He was past president of the Chamber of Commerce, was past board president of LifeSpan Resources, and was past executive board member of the American Red Cross. He was also a member of the Southern Indiana Board of Realtors, the New Albany Industrial Foundation and a long time member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in New Albany. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Bulleit Mason and siblings, John Neal Mason, Ruth Obermeyer and Miriam Mason.
Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Kay Biggs Mason; children, Max C. Mason, Jr. (Marsha) of Corydon, Indiana, Mary Ruth Hendren (Jack) of Corpus Christi, Texas; step-children, Ronald Striegel, Jr. (Anita), Bryan Striegel (Kathy), Chad Striegel; sister-in-law, Norma Jean Mason; grandchildren, Nancy, Christopher, Maggie, Kim, Sarah, Erica, Lauren, Lindsey, Kalynn, Morgan, Josie and Tristan; 7 great grandchildren
Visitation will be from 12:00 pm ~ 7:00 pm Sunday, July 1st and after 9:00 am Monday at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana. His funeral service will be 11:00am Monday, July 2nd at the Kraft Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in New Albany.
