She was born on December 5, 1925, in Floyds Knobs, Indiana to the late Otto C. Andres Sr. and Mabel C. (Fenwick) Andres. She and her beloved husband, Leo, shared ownership of Gaslight Liquors with her brother-in-law Edward and sister Helen, who was also her best friend.
She taught her children love and compassion while balancing work and commitment to her spouse, family, friends, and Catholic faith. She could whip up a great meal in no time and loved entertaining, gardening, theater, playing cards, reading, and going for her evening walk. Mary was a remarkable woman who had a way of making others feel as if they were one of her own. She was a role model to many, especially her grandchildren, for whom she taught the value of relationships, speaking with strength and truth, and pursuing one’s passion in life, perhaps with a little help from humor and chocolate.
She will be dearly missed by her family, including her children, Rebecca Blazek (Mark), Jeffrey (Linda), and John; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers Richard and Robert Andres; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to recognize and thank all of the wonderful, caring staff at The Villages of Historic Silvercrest for the loving care Mary received during her stay.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 6, at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street New Albany. Her funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 7, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Clarksville, Indiana with Friar John Bamman presiding. Burial will follow in Saint Mary of the Knobs Cemetery.
The family requests expressions of sympathy go to Mount St. Francis Friary and Retreat Center or St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church of which she was a long-standing member.
