Mary Elizabeth "Dolly" Kavathas, 89, of New Albany, Indiana passed away on Friday, June 10, 2022 at The Villages of Historic Silvercrest. Mary was born November 12, 1932 in New Albany, Indiana to the late Albert H. Schmitt Sr. and Bertha Hand Schmitt. She was retired from M. Fine and Son and Seinsheimer. She was a member of St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church since she was seven years old and volunteered in many capacities through the years. Dolly was also a member of the VFW Post 1693 where she served as past chaplain. Dolly was known for her candid honesty and loving devotion to her family. Until her husband's death, she was his sole caregiver. She was very proud of her grandsons for becoming such great fathers and role models, David W. Dougherty (Jasmine) and Frank Stamper (Elizabeth). She derived great enjoyment from her precious great-grandchildren. She loved participating in movie and popcorn night with Mia, watched videos with Cameron and learned about LEGOS with Frankie.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John P. Kavathas Jr.; and a brother, Norman Schmitt.
Dolly is survived by a daughter and primary care giver in her final years, Debbie Dougherty (Dave); two other daughters; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Threlkel (Charlie).
Visitation for Dolly will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana 47150 with a prayer service & memory sharing at 7:15 PM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery. The Heavens have received a very special angel.
