Julie Ann Gohmann, surrounded by loving family and dedicated friends, died peacefully at her home on January 3rd in New Albany, Indiana. She bravely fought to defy the odds following her cancer diagnosis 6-1/2 years ago. In spite of her illness, she continued to excel in her career as a sales representative for Cardinal Health and remained a devoted mother, spouse, aunt, sister, and step-grandmother. Julie continued to direct her high energy and enthusiasm outward toward the many people for whom she cared.
Julie will be fondly remembered for her radiant spirit, her optimism, and her exceptional generosity. Those who had the joy of knowing her were engaged by her wit, her joy for life, and her compassion for others. She lived life to the fullest, was the consummate hostess, and could always be counted on to be the life of the party. She cared very deeply for her family and friends and was always sending amazon packages, dropping off treats for her neighbors, purchasing matching pajamas for family vacations, and never forgot a birthday or special occasion. She was a deeply expressive and loving person – often referred to as the “spark plug” by her family and friends. To her customers, Julie was a loyal provider. She forged enduring relationships in the healthcare community, and her presence will be sorely missed.
Julie spent most of her life as a resident of Silver Hills, New Albany. She was the youngest of the four children of Mark and Mary Gohmann and attended Providence High School and Indiana University, Bloomington. She enjoyed and excelled at both tennis and volleyball. She earned a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree and was recruited by what is now Cardinal Health in 1982. The recipient of numerous sales awards, Julie was dedicated to her customer’s and her career in healthcare. She was an adventurer and took many trips over the years to Costa Rica, a Montana Dude Ranch, beach trips to Destin, and most recently to Germany and Italy.
Julie is survived by her husband, Stan Farrell; daughters, Emily and Elyse LaGarenne and Elyse’s husband, Chris Strautman; her step-daughters, Sarah Francis, Erin Farrell, and Allison Sengstacken; brothers, John Gohmann and his wife, Cindy Derer, and Charles Gohmann and his partner, Alejandro Martinez; brother-in-law, Duane Bigelow; and nephew and niece, Mark and Sarah Gohmann Bigelow. Julie was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Janet Marie Gohmann.
Those who knew and loved Julie are grieving her loss but remain inspired by her example. She leaves this world a better place and has set a high bar for how to live one’s life to the fullest – the only way she knew how.
A Celebration of Julie’s Life will be held from 1 pm to 5 pm on Saturday, February 2nd, at The Grand in New Albany, IN.
