It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Edward Pierce, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this life on Monday, December 9, 2024 at the age of 77.
Jim was a proud veteran who served his country with honor and courage, a legacy that his family will cherish forever. He carried that same dedication into every role he took on in life, particularly as a caregiver to his family. His selfless love and unwavering commitment to raising and supporting his children and grandchildren created a bond that will never be broken.
A true nurturer at heart, Jim had a passion for cooking and gardening. His kitchen was always a place of warmth and togetherness, where he created meals that were more than just food—they were expressions of love. Outside, his garden flourished under his care, a testament to his patience and devotion. He found joy in sharing the fruits of his labor, whether it was a home-cooked meal or a basket of fresh vegetables.
As a passionate volunteer for the Special Olympics, Jim dedicated numerous hours to supporting athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including his daughter, Monica. Whether coaching, organizing events, or cheering from the sidelines, Jim touched countless lives with his generosity and unwavering spirit.
Jim's life was defined by service, love, and an ability to bring people together. His wisdom, humor, and gentle spirit touched all who knew him. Though his absence leaves an ache in our hearts, we find comfort in the memories he created and the legacy he leaves behind.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents; his sister in law, Mary Hayse; and his brother in law, Don Thomas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Bonnie Pierce; his children Brian C. (Mary Vonda), Monica M., Matthew C. (Shelly), Anthony J. (Jane), and Sean P. (Anna); his grandchildren, Ryan-Thomas (Ally), Savannah, Maddie, Brooklyn, Clara, Audrey, Ashton, Hudson, Lydia, and Seth. His great grandchildren, Mercedes, Sierra, and Amara; his step-grandchildren, Anne and Elizabeth Pollio and Toby Parr; his brothers of Louisville, Charles, Ken (Sheila) and David (Sharron); as well as countless friends and extended family who will miss him dearly.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2024 at Kraft Funeral Service (2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana) from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm and on Monday, December 16, 2024 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A funeral service in his honor will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 1:00 pm, followed by an entombment at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
