James R. Phillips

James R. Phillips, 85 years of age passed away at his home on July 18, 2021. He was born on November 28, 1935 in Richmond, Virginia to the late Ralph and Florence Phillips. James was a Korean War veteran serving with the United States Marine Corp. He was a retired welder from Henry Vogt Machine Company and taught welding at Ivy Tech for many years. James was preceded in death by his son, David Ridge. He is survived by his wife, Betty Phillips; children, Michael Phillips, Carol Sawyer (Patrick), Debra Scott (Cliff); daughter-in-law, Maggie Ridge; sister, Marilyn McClure (Jim); 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Visitation will be 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm Thursday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana. His funeral service will be 10:00 am Friday at funeral home chapel with entombment at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, Indiana.
