Charlotte Mae Jones Mawhinney
6 February, 1945 – 15 September, 2022
IN THE CARE OF
Kraft Funeral Service & Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park
Charlotte passed away at McCormick’s Creek Rehabilitation in Spencer, IN. She was there in the care of Heart to Heart Hospice following tragic complications after what should have been a simple surgery back in August of 2021. She was unable to make any meaningful progress toward recovery since her surgery and senselessly lost what remained of what should have been a long life.
With her husband Jimmy, of nearly 58 years, it was a happy life nonetheless. She was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ. She moved “down the shore” to Belford, NJ in 1979 where they raised their three daughters. They moved to New Albany, IN in 1988; transferring with Jimmy’s job at Colgate Palmolive. They always missed NJ and visited as often as they could – always fitting in a trip to Maruca’s Pizza in Seaside Heights! Pizza was Charlotte’s favorite!
Charlotte was a devoted wife and mother and always did the best she could for her family. Some days were easy and others weren’t, but her strength and devotion were without question. She and Jimmy always maintained an unbreakable bond and a sense of humor throughout their lives together – always doing their best to be resilient.
You always knew what she thought, her expressive face couldn’t hide her feelings, even in her last days, her caregivers enjoyed all of her “Charlotte-isms” and her larger-than-life personality. The last year of her life was a difficult one, losing Jimmy in the middle of it all. It made us all hope that we each have just a little bit of her strength for all that she endured.
She was loved and she knew it and if she loved you, you knew it – no matter what! She will be remembered, she will be missed and she will always be loved. Our only consolation is in imagining her being reunited with all who have gone before her.
Charlotte was born to Thomas and Emily Flynn Jones on 2/6/1945. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Jimmy on 3/9/2022 as well as by her daughter Donna Lee Mawhinney in 2010 at the age of 45 after a battle with lung cancer. She is also predeceased by her father Thomas, her mother Emily, her sister Althea Gallagher and her husband Frank and their daughters Sharon and Julie Gallagher and their granddaughter Nicole Fort. Also, by her brother Thomas Jones and his wife Rita and their daughters Lori Jones and Lisa Babiak, as well as her Father and Mother-in-law Harold and Eleanor Mawhinney, her brother-in-law Harold (Butchie) Mawhinney and her niece Janet Mawhinney Cague.
Charlotte is survived by her daughter Debra and her husband Daniel Conley of NJ, her daughter Jaime and her husband Jeffrey Pope of IN, her grandchildren David Mawhinney, Arielle and Ashley Levine, Jillian, Caryn and Bobby Conley (all of NJ) and Eric Cooper of UT.
She is also survived by her brother Leonard Jones and his wife Linda of NJ, her brother-in-law Richard Mawhinney and his wife Linda of CT, her sister-in-law Nancy Mawhinney and her partner Diane Braver of DE, her nephews Frank Gallagher Jr., Thomas Jones Jr., Stephen Jones, Michael Jones, her nieces Tricia Gallagher, Christine Markenstein, Tammy Ratcliffe and Tess McCool.
We’d like to extend our thanks to all those who cared for her at McCormick’s Creek, a special thanks to Rachel, Kayley, Juleigh, Katerina and Jeff of Heart to Heart Hospice and to her friend, Rhea Pickett- the care you all showed was invaluable. Please share your memories of Charlotte with us. .
