Betty Lou Barksdale

Betty Lou (Harmeling) Barksdale, age 93 of New Albany, Indiana passed away on October 16, 2023. Betty was born on January 19, 1930, in New Albany, Indiana to the late Charles and Carrie (Smith)Harmeling. She was a 1948 graduate of New Albany High School and later married the love of her life, the late Eldon W. Barksdale. They were married for 53 years. Betty was Admissions Director for Green Valley Healthcare for over 30 years before her retirement. She was a faithful lifelong member of St. Marks United Church of Christ in New Albany, Indiana.
Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother better known as “Mimi”. In her spare time, she enjoyed working as a volunteer at her church for the Soup Kitchen, and Clothes Closet and attending the senior group outings. She was a huge fan of the New Albany High School basketball team and attended many games throughout the years supporting her Bulldogs. Above all, her family was the light and love of her life. Betty was much loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Along with her parents and husband Eldon W. Barksdale, she is preceded in death by a son, Paul E. Barksdale.
Betty is survived by her two children, David Barksdale (Debbie), and Karen Barksdale (Mary Pat), and eight grandchildren, David “DJ” Barksdale (Katie), Carrie Brumett (Cole), Paul Barksdale ll (Tiffany), Andrea Barksdale, Caden Sekelsky (Amanda), Emelia Currin, Garrett Sekelsky, and Lydia Barksdale; along with ten beautiful great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Betty will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Marks UnitedChurch of Christ, 222 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana with entombment to follow in KraftGraceland Memorial Park, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Marks United Church of Christ, Adult Activities Fund, 222 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana, or your favorite charity.
