Ann Kerr, 83, of Jeffersonville, Indiana passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family. Ann was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother who passed peacefully at home after a brief illness, surrounded by her family. She loved her family, was passionate about her grandchildren and she made family a priority.
Ann was born Valeene, Indiana and grew up in Southern Indiana. She graduated from New Albany High School and later in life had the opportunity to return to school to get her degree in Business Management at Indiana University Southeast, while working full-time. She was able to take classes with her daughter. Ann worked 25 years at Brown & Williamson, where she started in the secretarial pool, advancing into executive management in the research and development department. After retiring, she began a second career in real estate, which she loved. She particularly enjoyed helping first-time home buyers. Ann was a member of the National Secretarial Association, holding many positions, including president. She and her husband, Bussie, had been members of the Jaycees and Optimist Clubs in southern Indiana, and participated in community theater. She also relished traveling! Ann and Bussie, often with friends and family, visited all 50 states and 25 countries. She enjoyed spending time with cherished friends. She bowled in a league for many years, and played pinochle monthly. She liked to fish and attend the annual Murphy family reunions, staying close with many cousins. She also enjoyed her trips to “the boat.” Ann was proud of her flower garden and grew, among other things, a variety of beautiful lilies and her irises were spectacular. She also devoted many hours researching the family genealogy and cataloging pictures for her family to cherish and enjoy.
She was a caring, generous, and honest person who loved spending time with her friends and family. She loved her Friday movie dates with her sister, talking with life-long friends, and family dinners around the big kitchen table. Ann had the distinct ability to make every day dinners feel like occasions for royalty. She put effort into everything she did and was exceptionally well-organized and positive. She met challenges head on, was direct, and strong.
She was preceded in death by her parents Samuel Everett and Gladys Hisle Murphy and her brother, Henry Murphy.
