It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sharon West (née Hall) on July 9, 2020. Sharon passed away with her son Sean and his wife Stephanie by her side at the Riverview Health Centre. She was predeceased by her father William Foster Hall (1985), mother Nellie “Birdie” Hall (née Elliott (1990)), and brother, William “Bill” Hall (2016). Sharon touched many lives and is lovingly remembered by her son Sean and his wife Stephanie; her grandchildren, Carson, Emilie, and Miranda; her son Brendan; her nephew Dennis Hall; her niece Kelly Kristensen; her great-niece and great-nephews, and by her numerous friends.
Sharon was born in Hamiota and grew up in the nearby community of Decker. After graduating from grade 12 in Saskatchewan, she continued her education, graduating from the St. Boniface Hospital of Nursing in 1959. She worked as a nurse for many years in rural Manitoba and Ontario. She ended her career as a nurse to stay home to raise her two boys. They moved back to Manitoba from Ontario where the family established a diner in Richer and the restaurant Barney Gargles in Selkirk. In the late 1980s, she joined the Finance Department for the Province of Manitoba, where she worked until her retirement.
Sharon enjoyed her retirement to the fullest – travelling to Mexico for many wonderful years, Arizona where she and her brother had a trailer, and many casino trips with her friends. She spent a lot of time with her grandkids, friends, and extended family. She also deeply cherished her Parish family at the St. Mary Magdalene Anglican Church. Anyone who knew Sharon will remember her as a strong, independent, thoughtful, and loving person. Her heart was truly made of gold.
Sharon, mom, nana we love and miss you already. We will always carry your memory in our hearts. One thing is certain; you truly lived a wonderful life. May you finally rest in peace.
The family would like to thank Dr. Wasef and the palliative care unit at the Riverview Health Centre for their outstanding care and compassion during Sharon’s stay.
An outdoor memorial service, which friends and family are invited to attend, was held on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery (Hwy. #1 East at, Navin Rd) with Rev. Val From officiating. Inurnment took place following the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to CancerCare Manitoba.
