Roland was born on May 31, 1914 in St. Eustache, Manitoba. At twenty-three, he married Alfreda Lachance who was by his side for 69 years. They moved from St. Eustache to St. Boniface in 1950 and then to Transcona 10 years later. They sold their Transcona home in 1985 and after a few short stays in various places over the next six years, they then spent 15 years at Lions Place in Winnipeg. Roland spent the last 8 years at the Cathedral Manor in St. Boniface.
Roland was a terrific husband and an excellent father. He farmed for a number of years and then ran a taxi business for a few years in St. Eustache. He moved on to being a Canada Bread delivery man and an Eaton employee for a few years and finally as a bus driver for the Winnipeg Transit for many years, having to stop because of a vision impairment. He was also involved in the French Scout Movement in Transcona and many young boys and girls are grateful to Roland and his beloved wife Alfreda for the memorable times they had on camp outings and various trips. He was also instrumental in raising funds, through the Western Lottery Corporation, to both purchase a 50-acre property in St. Malo, Manitoba and build two cottages for the use by the scouts movement. After he moved to Lions Place, he helped Alfreda start and maintain an evening coffee and hot chocolate club to help the seniors overcome their loneliness during the evening hours. It was welcomed and enjoyed for some years. He was always willing to help anyone in need.
