It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Hrycenko on Wednesday, January 1, 2020. His wife of 45 years, Susanne, was by his side. Michael was 92 years old when he passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital.
Michael will be lovingly remembered by his wife Susanne, stepson Martin Kuilman (Colleen) and their children Benjamin and Lisa, grandson Daniel Lynch, granddaughter Nicole Tannen (Dylan) and their daughter Iris.
Michael was predeceased by his parents Emilia (Emily) and Harry Hrycenko, brothers Joseph, Anthony (Tony) and William (Bill) and stepdaughter Helene Lynch.
Michael was born on the family farm in St. Norbert where he lived until striking out on his own to pursue his interest in business. He eventually started Cambrian Equipment Sales and operated that business until becoming ill in late 2019. Michael operated Cambrian Equipment since the late 1960’s. His passion was his work and he very much enjoyed dealing with the many customers over those 50 years. All who spoke with him and knew him as “Iron Mike” marvelled at how he was able to know where everything was in his Cambrian yard, where he walked every day. Michael even continued to work seven days a week after losing much of his eyesight. Mike saw the value in an honest and hard working life. He was a generous man and a strong role model for all who knew him. Special thanks go out to his team at Cambrian, Jason Skoropet, David Skoropet, Peter Klassen and Elmer Delcarmen who worked with Mike for many years and together were Mike’s right hand men. Special thanks to David Galbraith for his continued support.
Thanks go out to those who cared for him during his brief stay at the Holy Family Personal Care Home. Their care was appreciated.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 11 at 10:00 am at Green Acres Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church on Red River Drive in St. Norbert.
Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Michael’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Humane Society of Manitoba, or to another charity of your choice.
