Peacefully on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Mary, at West Park Manor Personal Care Home, went to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. There is a saying that holds true, “Mothers hold their children’s hands for a while, but hold their hearts forever.”
Mary was predeceased by her loving husband, Harry, her parents Jacob and Maria Schellenberg, her brothers, John, Jake, Peter and Martin and her sisters, Nettie, Edith, Teena, Anne, and Susan.
We are truly blessed to have had Mary for 94 beautiful years. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her children, her son Raymond (wife, Sirinthip and son Pongpisit), her daughter, Marion, her granddaughter, Taylor and most precious great grandson, Noah. She also leaves to cherish her memory two sisters, Helen and Eva, her step – grandchildren, Johnathon, Cole (Great grandchild Zane), Junita (Terrence and great grandchildren Brooke and Braelyn), Chase (Tara and great grandchildren, Avery, Raeghan, and Phoenix) and many nieces and nephews.
Mary (Maria Schellenberg) was born March 13,1929 in Estado De Chihuahua, Mexico, and at the age of 7 moved to Canada. She would grow up, the eldest daughter in a loving home of a pastor and wife who had thirteen children. In her early twenties she would meet the love of her life, Harry, and they married August 20, 1952. They were married for 34 years on this earth but would be married for a lifetime, having two children, Raymond and Marion.
Mary started hairdressing when her children were both in elementary school. She worked downtown across from the Bay at Beauty Makers for many years and had a shop in the family home, caring for family and friends. In 1984, Mary and husband, Harry would move out of the family home to Armadale Hollows. There they made some final memories as Harry was called to be with Jesus 2 years later. Mary continued to serve the Lord through her kindness, compassion, and talent of
hairdressing. At age 74, Mary started her own business, a hairdressing shop at the Rotary Villa which she continued to run until she was 83. Her need to serve and have purpose was greater than ever as she would say, “I’m just trying to do my part to help give dignity to the residents who could not do it for themselves.”
To Mary, family was everything as she would say it was her greatest gift from God. She enjoyed baking, cooking, travelling, having her friends in for tea and golf, which she decided to learn at age 60. She was a God-fearing woman and prayed endlessly for her family and friends. She was truly a special woman to everyone she encountered with her loving, generous, self-sacrificing, compassionate, caring heart. She will be missed by all, but her memory will live on in us forever.
The family would like to extend deep gratitude to the staff and residents of West Park Manor for your love, care and giving her a wonderful quality of life.
To the family and friends who loved her dearly by going the extra mile, we noticed and can’t thank you enough.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.greenacresfuneralhome.com for the Mallard family.
