It is with great sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend Guy Desrosiers after a brief illness on Thursday, October 21st, 2021 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg .
Guy was born on June 25th, 1951, the third son of Lucien Desrosiers (2012) & Marie Jeanne Desrosiers nee Dugas ( 2015). He was raised in the rural towns of Ste Genevieve and Ste Anne Manitoba . He grew up with 4 siblings Gilles (Yvette), Gilbert (Gayle), Liliane (Andre) and Andre.
In his teen years, Guy met and later married the love of his life Irene (nee Normandeau), in 1972. Together, they raised 3 amazing children Chantal (Scott), Gerald (Andrea), and Jocelyn (Mike) . He was also blessed with several grandchildren - Jenevieve, Gabrielle, Brody, Cole as well as Nathan & Mya.
Guy was very skilled in the construction trade and in mechanics. He was a true handy man, always worked very hard and was just a phone call away for advice or help. Throughout his working career he excelled in roofing, building basements for Ladco Homes and doing general maintenance for the properties at Lakewood Agencies . He was always proud to point out someplace that he’d had a hand in building. It broke his heart that he was forced to retire in 2019 due to health reasons.
Guy also enjoyed the great outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, which were his favourite topics of conversation. He loved to camp especially at Gem Lake & High Lake as well as spend time at his cottage in St Malo. He spent decades going on weekend fishing trips with friends and family, especially with his two favourite people – his Dad Lou and his son Gerald. In recent years, he wasn’t able to do those things as much and that affected him deeply.
Guy was definitely one of a kind. He always had or loved a good joke (often a dirty one ) and was pretty insistent that he was always right and never wrong …. EVER….
Guy had a huge passion for New Bothwell cheese, Chicken Chef, olives, shrimp and all things strawberry . In his retirement, he discovered Facebook & the green dot on Messenger. He made a point of connecting and reconnecting with friends, old and new, and family on a very frequent basis.
The family would like the thank the doctors, nurses and Neurosurgery team at HSC for all of their effort, care and compassion for Guy the past several weeks .
A viewing will be held a Green Acres Funeral Home on Tuesday October 26th from 6pm-8pm. All mourners will be asked to show their photo ID and vaccine cards upon arrival. We ask that non vaccinated mourners wait until the later part of the evening to assist in addressing capacity requirements.
As per Guy’s wishes & the ongoing public health concerns a small service will be held at a later date.
To Those Whom I Love and Those Who Love Me
When I am gone, release me, let me go.
I have so many things to see and do,
You mustn't tie yourself to me with too many tears,
But be thankful we had so many good years.
I gave you my love, and you can only guess How much you've given me in happiness.
I thank you for the love that you have shown,
But now it is time I traveled on alone.
So grieve for me a while, if grieve you must, Then let your grief be comforted by trust. It is only for a while that we must part,
So treasure the memories within your heart.
I won't be far away for life goes on. And if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can't see or touch me, I will be near. And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear, All my love around you soft and clear.
And then, when you come this way alone,
I'll greet you with a smile and a 'Welcome Home'.
