Peacefully following a lengthy illness, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Erwin with his family by his side on March 10, 2020 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He will sadly be missed by his wife of 58 years Joyce (Gluck), children Marlene Klimchuk and husband Rob, Marilyn Gesell, Bradley Gesell and wife Jennifer and grandchildren Ryan (Destiny), Anna, Elisa and Andrew, as well as numerous family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Adolf and Elsa (Malkoske) Gesell, brother Arnold and sister-in-law Margaret Gesell.
Erwin was born in Whitemouth in 1936 and grew up in that area until his marriage. He was married September 2, 1961 to Joyce (Gluck) at Grace Lutheran Church in Winnipeg. They resided in Winnipeg together their entire life. Erwin worked for Manitoba Hydro for much of his career as an Automotive/Heavy Equipment Supervisor.
Erwin followed God all his life. He grew up attending Oldenburg Church and ultimately spent his adult life attending Grace Lutheran. He was a man of Faith who read his Bible.
The Whitemouth area was dear to his heart. After his parents retired from the farm, he built a cottage on the river where he would enjoy fishing and the nature around. He loved his hobbies, whether he was making fish hooks, wood carving, or fine jewelry. Erwin was a great storyteller and loved nothing better than to have fun, tell jokes and spend time with his family.
Special thanks to the staff at Kildonan PCH for their wonderful care for him over the years.
Service to be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 211 Kimberly Avenue on March 17th at 11:00am. A private family interment will follow the reception.
Donations may be made in Erwin’s memory to the Parkinson Society Manitoba or Grace Lutheran Church, Winnipeg MB.
