William A King

William Anderson King, best known as “Bill” to his friends and “Dedad” to his family, was born on September 2, 1933, as the fourth of five children to David Clark King and Edna Anderson King in Kenton, Tennessee. He met the love of his life, Joann Davis, in 1951. He and Joann were married April 1, 1956, when Bill returned from two years of being stationed in Tokyo with the US Army. He worked his way up to a management position with South Central Bell from 1956 to 1968, when he decided to strike out on his own and King Home Builders was born. For over 40 years, Bill’s superior craftsmanship and Joann’s interior decorating expertise made the company a success. He was a distinguished member of the Home Builders Association of Middle Tennessee since 1969, and the National Association of Home Builders. He received great honors including: Builder of the Year, Spike of the Year, The Best Of Show and numerous awards in the Parade of Homes from 1970-1982, named Senior Life National Director, and received the Leadership Award. With nearly 800 new members recruited for the association, Bill King’s contributions to the building industry are difficult to overstate and place him among the most storied of HBAMT’s existence culminating with the recognition of Building Industry of Tennessee Hall of Fame award in 2010, and then awarded Legend of the Industry award in 2017.

Bill was a member of Brentwood Baptist Church and The Lord’s Chapel where he served as deacon and/or elder.

William was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Joann King. He is survived by his two children, his daughter, Keila Brandon and her husband, Dennis, his son, Jeff King and his wife, Sheila. He was blessed with grandchildren, Kari Stout (William), Jennifer Orr (Andrew), Rachael Mullins (Josh), Lauren King, Cody King, Sentayehu Wondemaneh (Kateasha). He also loved and enjoyed his 4 great grandchildren, Caleb Mullins, Clyde Mullins, Ellis Orr and Arden Orr.
