Thomas “Jeff”erson Smedley was born on February 29, 1956, the middle child of Maxine and Arthur Smedley. Yes, he is only 16 years old! Raised in Nashville, he was educated in the public schools and graduated from Hillsboro High School. He was involved in band for a short time, but much more in sports later as a sideline participant. He carried those sideline skills to the University of Tennessee and became a basketball manager. Majoring in Agriculture Education, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science. He later received his Masters from Middle Tennessee State University.
Jeff accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior during the middle school years at West End Church of Christ. Active in the youth group, he grew to love the Lord and began serving at an early age. In his adult years, he was a faithful member of Donelson Church of Christ. He continued that service until he was taken home. He loved the Lord and influenced many with his faith.
McGavock High School is where he began his teaching career as a agriculture teacher and a coach. He later taught and coached at Lavergne High School. The impact he made throughout those years will be felt for many years to come by so many.
During these years, he had 3 beautiful daughters and, later, 3 amazing grandchildren. He loved his family deeply.
Almost 10 years ago, he married Rosetta Tomlinson and they had been able to retire and enjoy so much together.
Jeff was an amazing man! Known as SMED to many, he had friends far and wide. He never met a stranger and always with a smile on his face! He was loved deeply by those around him, especially his family. He is survived by his wife, Rosetta, daughters Tiffany (Clayton) Downs, Keaton (Blake) Marshall, and Karleigh Smedley, soon-to-be son-in-law Dimitrius Brown, grandchildren Raegan Downs, Addison Downs, and Thomas Marshall, sister Tish Smedley, brother Jim Smedley and other family members and friends.
He lived his life as one to be celebrated!
