Walker is preceded in death by his grandparents, Rebecca Murray & John O’Neal Clayton and Frances Campbell & William Hooper Huggins. He is survived by his parents, Marguerite & Neal Clayton; brothers, John (Rachael) and Will (Libby) Clayton, aunts and uncles, Bill and Susan Huggins, Sissy Allen, Ted Clayton and Murray Clayton; nieces Ellis & Mattie Clayton, nephew William Clayton; cousins Grace, Houston, Allen and Ruthie and their families; and especially by his soul mate Kelli Gledhill and her children Jackson and Lily.
He graduated from Hillsboro High School and attended the University of Alabama, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
Walker had a personality that was larger than life and a heart full of love and compassion for others. He never knew a stranger and made friends everywhere he went. He was a champion to the underdog and was especially gifted at encouraging friends who were struggling. God worked through Walker to help others as he drew closer to him with each day. He had an intense love for all animals, especially his sweet German Shorthaired Pointer, Bailey. Children of all ages adored Walker, probably because he himself was a kid at heart. Whether he was playing in the backyard or working with a child with the Nashville Dolphins, he would never tire at keeping them entertained and happy.
Walker was known for his gift of gab, his incredible sales ability and his effortless sense of humor. He would fill a room with laughter the minute he walked in. His friends and family could write a book of “Walker stories” as he has entertained us all up until the last night of his life. He was a bright light and a beautiful soul. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him as life will no longer be the same without our Walkman.
A celebration of Walker’s life will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021 at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 4715 Harding Pike with a visitation with the family from 2:00-3:30pm and the service at 3:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lynwood House for the Walker Clayton Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Alex Cole, 598 Warrior Trail Jackson, MS. 39216; or the Nashville Humane Association, 213 Oceola Avenue Nashville TN 37209.
