Sara Anne Smith

Mrs. Smith was born in Plant City, FL, on December 17, 1931, the daughter of the late Louie C. Geier and Lida Vaudrey Reynolds Geier. She was raised in Anniston, AL, and graduated from Oxford High School in 1950, the same year she married the love of her life, Albert Henry Smith, Jr. Sara Anne was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church in Anniston, and worked for the Anniston Board of Education. In 1973, she and Albert moved to Charlotte, NC. She was active in the First Baptist Church of Charlotte, where she sang in the choir and worked for 17 years as a secretary. She also worked as a receptionist for the law firm of Sellers, Hinshaw, Ayers & Dortch. She retired in 2006 and moved to Nashville, TN, where she was an active member of Brentwood Baptist Church, singing in the choir, knitting prayer shawls, and serving on The Nurture Team. Her passions were her family and her friends.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Albert H. Smith, Jr., and a sister, Vaudrey Gaulding. Survivors include a son, Dr. David A. Smith (Pamela); a daughter Sheila Herring (Dr. Robert W. Herring, Jr.); four grandchildren, Gracen Smith, Hampton Smith, Bert Herring, and Helen Herring; three brothers, Ronald Geier (Joyce), Donald Geier (Doris), and Jack Geier; a sister, Joan Anderson; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She is also survived by her dachshund, Fred.

Services to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. (CST), at Brentwood Baptist Church, and Monday, February 15, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. (EST), at the First Baptist Church of Charlotte, NC. Internment services will follow in the Sharon Memorial Park.

Family and Friends will gather Saturday from noon until the funeral hour at Brentwood Baptist Church and Monday from noon until the funeral hour at First Baptist Church of Charlotte, NC.
