On September 6th, 2022 he left us on earth for a heavenly home. Bobby was born in Nashville on July 24th, 1937. He grew up in Nashville and graduated from East High School in 1955. He left to serve in the Navy for four years where he met the love of his life, Janet Marie Modlin. They were married for 63 years and their greatest accomplishment was their family. He has 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and they adore him.
He graduated from Aquinas College and Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in Criminal Justice. He received many awards over the years, including his service at the Nashville Metro Davidson Police Department. He became Assistant Police Chief and retired in 2001 after 37 years of service.
Vanderbilt football was one of his greatest pleasure's. He traveled, volunteered, and watched football games for almost 50 years. He developed many friendships there over the years with players, coaches, and the volunteers.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Marie; daughters, Teresa Russell Ferguson and Tracy Russell Barreiro (Efrain); brother, Fred Russell; sisters, Freida R. Banniza (Jimmy) and Chyril R. Bobbitt; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Alan Russell (Lorene); parents, Virginia and Preston Russell; sister, Virginia R. Clark; sister-in-law, Jennette Russell; nephew, Wayne Clark; and niece, Lorrie Clark Hall.
Pallbearers will be: Billy Smith, Efrain Barreiro, Joshua Hardcastle, Chuck Arnold, Eric Chaffin, and Austin Russell. Honorary Pallbearer: Caleb Miller
A Gathering of Family and Friends for Robert will be held on Friday, September 9th, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Long Hollow Church, 3031 Long Hollow Pike, Hendersonville, TN 37075. Gathering will continue on Saturday, September 10th, at 12:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 pm.
