Ray G. Martin was born in Nashville Tennessee to Gladys Ann Sharp Martin and Ray G. Martin on April 20, 1941 and ended his journey here on Earth on March 19, 2016. He was 74 years of age. He attended Vanderbilt University for his undergraduate degree and University of Tennessee for his graduate degree in Geology. Following graduation, he served his country in the Army and was stationed in France. He returned stateside and worked for the U.S. Geological Survey in both Menlo Park, California and Corpus Christi, Texas. He moved to Katy in 1982 and has since worked for several oil companies in the Houston area. In later years, he operated a geosciences consulting business. Among his many interests, Ray was an avid coin collector and an aviation history buff. He loved attending air shows and visiting air museums, especially when he had family with him. He leaves behind a wife of 41 years, Ann, a daughter Katie, a son Travis and four delightful grand daughters, Alisa, Jenna, Cosette and Marley. Ray also leaves behind friends and colleagues, many in the oil business. He was a true southern gentlemen and he will be remembered for his sharp wit and kind nature. Those wishing to make donations in lieu of flowers are encouraged to donate in Ray's name to the Commemorative Air Force, a Texas based organization whose mission is to restore vintage aircraft, show them at air shows and educate the community on the role of aviation in the history of our country.
