Patricia Wallendorf Wallace- On Wednesday, December 28, 2022, Patricia W. Wallace (Pat), a devoted grandmother, mother, and dear friend to many, died peacefully at the age of 82 in her home in Nashville, TN, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born on April 18, 1940, to Paul and Helen Wallendorf in Schenectady, NY, Pat grew up in New Canaan, CT, and then attended Northfield School for Girls in Mount Hermon, MA. After earning her Bachelor of Arts in history at Duke University in 1962, Pat married her college sweetheart William Joseph Wallace IV (Jodie) of Nashville, TN, in June of the same year.
Before Jodie’s death in 1998, the perfect-match couple enjoyed a fun and loving marriage. To see Pat and Jodie “cut a rug” on the dance floor of a party, wedding, or any occasion was to witness true love in motion. During their 36 years together, they raised their three children, forged life-long friendships, and made a lasting impact on our community. Pat especially relished their family summer vacations to Maine and revived the tradition with her children and their families. Later in life, Pat was able to find love again with her partner of 12 years, Pete Langfitt.
As a working mom, Pat served as Director at the PENCIL Foundation and later as Director of Development at Vanderbilt University. Beyond her career, Pat shared her generous heart through her leadership, fellowship, and philanthropy. She served on the boards of The Centennial Club, Matthew 25, Progress Inc. (President), Kids on the Block, and the Nashville Tree Foundation (life long board member), and was active with Junior League of Nashville (President), Leadership Nashville, and Youth Villages. As the granddaughter of two Christian ministers, Pat proudly sang in the choir and served on committees at West End United Methodist Church.
Pat was passionate about saving trees, Blue Devil basketball, football, and most of all,
the people in her life. Armed with an infectious smile, Pat could bring the shyest person in any
room out of their shell. She was as enthusiastic about making new acquaintances as she was
about spending time with friends and family. She loved social gatherings, hated to miss a party, and
was famous for her endless collection of holiday-specific outfits and accoutrements—the more
outlandish the better.
Pat loved people, and people loved Pat. And the echo of her warm “Hello!” can still be heard in
the halls of every house she graced.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband William Joseph Wallace IV. She is survived by her
three children and their spouses, Barbara Royse (Charlie), Paul Wallace (Missy), and Timothy Wallace (Lisa); her eight grandchildren, Henry Royse (Caroline), Jane Royse, Charlotte Wallace, William Wallace, Mae Mae Wallace, Disser Wallace, Benjamin Wallace, and Lucille Wallace.
Burial will take place at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1101 Lebanon Pike, Nashville, TN 37210. Services will be held at 1:00 PM that afternoon at West End United Methodist Church, 2200 West End Avenue, Nashville, TN 37203 with visitation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to: The Nashville Tree Foundation, West End United Methodist Church, or the Nashville Chapter of JDRF.
