Pansy Jo Smelser

Jo was a teacher in Metro Nashville Public Schools where she spread a love of art and filmmaking to students over many years. In addition to family, her students, and art, Jo loved cats, flower gardening and square dancing with her husband and many friends.

Jo was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Chester Smelser, and her sister Marie Choate. She is survived by her daughter, Mignon Smelser; step-children Joyce Shumard, Judy (Rick) Bowers and Jerry (Lisa) Smelser; niece Teresa (Cliff Jewell) Choate; along with numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 24 at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN 37204 to be followed by a graveside service at noon. Jo was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, in Nashville at Hillsboro Church of Christ and Granny White Church of Christ (now The Church of Christ in Green Hills). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Church of Christ in Green Hills, 3805 Granny White Pike, Nashville, TN 37204 to benefit the youth ministry.
