She was born in Dacula, Georgia on May 29th, 1938, the youngest and only girl of 5 siblings, and raised on her parent’s farm. Ollie Mae attended Dacula High School where she became known as Polly. She then met Byron Pierce Winters from Big Sandy, Tennessee while working at Genesco. She was married on May 18th, 1958 in Dacula. After marriage, they lived briefly in Georgia, then a short stay in Fulton, Mississippi, before settling down in Nashville in 1963.
Polly worked for Sears as a sales rep for some 20+ years and was one of the early founding members of the Metro Nashville Chorus of the Sweet Adelines. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents Claude and Maggie Rowe, and older brothers Millard and Richard.
Living to carry her torch are her twin brothers Troy and Roy, offspring Sammy, Mike and Jacky, as well as 9 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Polly lit up every room she entered. After Byron’s passing, Polly believed that butterflies were Byron’s spirit sent to keep in touch.
