Myrtle "Jean" Thompson, age 93, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024 surrounded by family. She was born in Nashville, TN on February 22, 1931. Jean graduated from Hume Fogg High School where she attended school in the evenings while she worked a full time job. She received a full scholarship from Daughters of the Revolution to Middle Tennessee State University.
Jean married Charles Marion Thompson on February 20 in Nashville. She worked as a homemaker and volunteered for many years at the VA hospital. Her true passion was serving Jesus Christ and helping others. She loved her family dearly.
Jean is survived by her Grandchildren, Misty Thompson, Phillip “Justin” Skaggs, Courtney “Dru” Skaggs; Great-Grandchildren, Britney (Robert) Forbes, Briana Wheeler, Braxton (Addi) Wheeler, Makayla Skaggs, Jayden Skaggs and Zen Skaggs; Great-Grandchild, Robert “Malachi” Forbes; Siblings, Jacqueline “Lena” Cagle (Bobby), Harry Raines (Patricia) and Caroline McCullough; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by Daughter, Muriel Jacqueline Skaggs; Husband, Charles Marion Thompson; Sisters, Salura Ruth Maxwel (Cobran), Thelma Elizabeth Byrd and Patricia Valentine; Brothers, George Thomas Raines, Alfred Dalton “Dump” Byrd Raines (Theresa) and Jack (Lois) Raines.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Adoration Hospice or the United Rescue Mission in memory of Jean Thompson.
A Gathering of Family and Friends for Jean will be held Friday, July 5, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM with a Celebration of Life service to follow beginning at 3:00 PM at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204. Burial will follow the service in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
